Hi, I'm Rebecca Hanberry. I have spent close to 20 years learning and successfully building transition programs that help students with significant disabilities become successful high school graduates. I’ve served in the classroom level, district level, higher education, and at the Louisiana Department of Education level. I have a master’s degree, plus 30, in Special Education, with an emphasis in Curriculum.
Over the years, I've developed a strong expertise in creating opportunities that provide students with significant disabilities opportunities to learn life skills, train for employment, and experience post-secondary educational life, all while still under the K-12 umbrella. I specialize in building community partnerships that assist school districts with creating seamless transition opportunities.
As a professional, I am passionate about creating sustainable programming that impacts lives. I believe program building should be based on structures that remain in place regardless of staff turnover. Additionally, there are untapped resources unbeknownst to district leaders that help ease the financial burden of districts. Our kids need affordable impactful transition programming created within a systematized structure that ensures longevity! Systemic Change!
In my free time, I enjoy learning, gardening, reading, and traveling. I absolutely love learning new things. It really doesn’t matter the subject. I am curious to a fault! I have two children, the four-legged, furry kind. Spending time with them, my wife, friends, and family back home in Lake Charles are the best.
In the future, I aim to impact transition programming for students with significant disabilities in the State of Louisiana and beyond! I truly believe, from the top of the Boot, down to the Heel, and over to the Toe, our state can and should be a shining example of what transition for students with disabilities can and should look like. I'm committed! Let’s do this!
